Managing your account

Profile, preferences and account deletion

Managing your account

Your account area is where you keep your profile up to date, choose which notifications reach you, change how the app looks, and close your account if you ever need to. You can get to it from the account menu at the top of the page at any time.

This guide is for people who chat with assistants. If you also build assistants of your own, see the builder account guide for usage statistics and billing and plans for subscriptions and credits.

Your profile

The Edit Profile page is where you update your display name. This is the name shown when you chat with assistants and on any messages you send.

To change it, type a new name into the Full Name field and click Save Changes. You'll see a confirmation as soon as it's saved.

Your email address

Your email address is shown on the profile page but you can't edit it, because it's tied to how you sign in. If you need to change the email on your account, send us an email and we'll help sort it out.

Notification preferences

Account → Notifications is where you choose which notifications reach you. Everything is on when you start, so you only need this page if something is arriving that you would rather not have.

There are two kinds of notification, each with its own switch:

  • Help requests: when somebody using an assistant you have made yourself needs you to step in. If you have never made one, nothing arrives in this category
  • Updates on your requests: when the person who made an assistant answers a request you asked for help with, including if it closes without a reply

Each switch covers everywhere we would reach you. Turning one off stops it on your phone and by email together, because the email is only ever a stand-in for when we cannot reach your phone.

Turning a switch off changes nothing about the assistants themselves. A request you have made still gets answered, and the answer is still there in the chat the next time you open it. All you are turning off is being told about it while you are elsewhere.

Your choice is saved as soon as you flip the switch and applies to your whole account, not just the device you are using.

Stopping an email without signing in

Every notification email has a link at the bottom to stop that kind of notification. Some mail apps show their own unsubscribe button at the top of the message, which stops the same thing straight away without asking you to confirm.

Following the link opens a page telling you what it would stop and asking you to confirm, so nothing changes just because a message was opened or scanned. Confirming flips the same switch as the Notifications page, so it stops that kind on your phone as well as by email, and leaves the other kind exactly as you had it. You can turn it back on there whenever you like.

Sign-in emails, invitations and messages about your account itself have no such link. Those are not notifications, and we would have no way to reach you without them.

Theme and appearance

You can switch between light and dark mode using the small sun/moon icon in the header. By default the app follows your device's system setting, so if your phone or computer is set to dark mode, Deputise will be too. Click the icon at any time to override that and pick the look you prefer. Your choice is remembered on the device you're using.

What data we hold about you

We keep a fairly small set of data tied to your account:

  • Your name and email address
  • The conversations you've had with assistants
  • Sign-in information so we can keep you logged in securely

For the full picture of what we collect, why, and how it's stored, have a read of our privacy policy.

Deleting your account

If you decide Deputise isn't for you, you can permanently delete your account yourself. There's no need to email us.

How to delete your account

  1. Go to Account → Manage Account
  2. Scroll down to the Delete Account section
  3. Click Delete Account to expand the confirmation panel
  4. You'll see a summary of what will be removed, including any conversations linked to your account
  5. Type your email address into the box to confirm it really is you
  6. Click Delete My Account

Once that's done, you'll be signed out and sent back to the home page.

What happens when you delete your account

  • Your profile is anonymised; retention exceptions, including safety reports, are explained in the privacy policy
  • Your conversations with assistants are removed from view
  • Any sign-in sessions and login methods linked to your account are deleted
  • If you happen to have an active subscription, it's cancelled automatically as part of the process

This is permanent. Once your account is deleted we can't bring it back, so make sure you're ready before you confirm.

Changing your mind

If you start the deletion process and have second thoughts, just click Never Mind before you confirm. Nothing is changed until you type your email and click the final button.
