Billing and plans
This guide explains how Deputise's plans work, what each tier gives you, and how to subscribe, upgrade, downgrade, and cancel. For everything else about your account, see managing your account.
Plan overview
Deputise has four tiers for builders. The tier you choose decides how many assistants you can run, how many chat credits you get each month, whether you can use Premium AI models, and what level of support you get.

- 20 chat credits per month
- Standard AI model only
- No support
- No image attachments or web search

A light tier for owners with a small audience.

You can see the public comparison at any time on the pricing page.
Subscribing for the first time
If you don't yet have a subscription, you'll be guided to the subscribe page when you try to do something that needs one, like creating an assistant.
- Compare tiers on the pricing page, or go straight to subscribe if you've already chosen
- Pick the tier you want
- Read and accept the terms and conditions
- Click Subscribe
What happens next depends on the tier:
- Free activates immediately and your monthly credits are added to your balance
- Basic, Standard, or Pro takes you to a Stripe checkout page to enter payment details. Once payment is confirmed, your subscription is active and your monthly credits are credited
After a successful paid subscription, Stripe redirects you back to a confirmation page and you're ready to start building.
Upgrading
You can upgrade to a higher tier at any time from Account → Manage Account.
When you upgrade between paid tiers:
- The change takes effect immediately
- The new tier's monthly allowance is added to the credits you already have, so you lose nothing you have not spent
- Your renewal date does not change
- Your card is charged a prorated amount through Stripe
If you're upgrading from Free to a paid tier for the first time, you'll go through Stripe checkout, which starts a billing period of its own and sets your balance to the new tier's allowance. After that, future tier changes happen instantly without re-entering payment details.
Downgrading
Downgrading is scheduled at the end of your current billing period rather than happening immediately. You keep all the benefits of your current tier until your renewal date.
To downgrade:
- Go to Account → Manage Account
- Choose the lower tier you want to move to
- Confirm the downgrade
What happens at the period end:
- Your tier changes to the new (lower) one
- Your monthly credit allowance changes to the new tier's amount
- If you have more enabled assistants than the new tier allows, the least recently used ones are automatically disabled to bring you within the limit. They aren't deleted, so you can re-enable them later if you upgrade again
Cancelling a pending downgrade
If you change your mind before the downgrade takes effect, you can cancel it at any time from the same Manage Account page. Your current tier carries on as normal and your renewal date is unchanged.
Cancelling
You can cancel your subscription from Account → Manage Account. Cancellation works the same way as a downgrade. You keep access until the end of your current billing period, then your subscription ends.
While cancelled but still in the period:
- All your assistants stay live and usable
- Your credits stay available
- You can restore the subscription at any time before the period ends to undo the cancellation
After the period ends, your subscription expires. You can subscribe again later if you want to come back.
You cannot schedule a downgrade while cancellation is pending. Restore the subscription first if you want to change tier.
Credit basics
Credits are spent each time one of your assistants sends a response in a conversation. What a response costs depends on:
- An assistant on the Standard AI model costs 1 credit per response
- An assistant on the Premium AI model costs 2 credits per response
- Image attachments and web search each add 2 credits to a response that uses them
So a Premium response that read an image and searched the web costs 6 credits. A capability that is switched on but not used in a given response adds nothing.
Your monthly credit allowance is set by your tier and resets on your subscription anniversary date. Anything you don't spend from that allowance in a given month doesn't carry over: it resets to that month's amount. Credits you buy separately are a different pot and don't work this way, see below.
For more on how credits move through the system day-to-day, see spend and transactions.
Interrupted responses
A response is charged once the assistant starts sending answer text, even if the connection then drops. If no answer text is sent, reserved credits are returned. Contact support if your balance does not reflect this.
What happens when credits run out
Deputise gives you a small grace period when you hit zero so conversations don't cut off mid-flow.
- At 0 you enter a short grace period. Existing conversations can keep going briefly, but new conversations can't be started
- At -10 all assistant usage is blocked. It stays blocked until your monthly reset arrives or you buy a credit pack, whichever happens first
You'll see a yellow warning banner once your balance drops to 10 or fewer credits, and a red warning when it hits zero.
If you need credits before your reset date, upgrading to a higher tier gives you that tier's allowance straight away. From Basic or Standard, it is added to what you have left. From Free, the upgrade opens a new billing period and your balance is set to the new tier's allowance, so any credits left on Free are replaced rather than kept. Pro is the top tier, so there's nothing higher to upgrade to. On any paid tier, including Pro, you can also buy a credit pack instead.
Buying extra credits
A credit pack adds 500 credits to your balance for £10, $13, or €12, depending on your currency. Buy one from Account → Manage Account, on any paid tier. Free doesn't offer the pack: if you're on Free and need more credits, subscribing to a paid tier is how you get them.
Bought credits are a separate pot from your monthly allowance. They don't expire and aren't touched by your monthly reset. Your allowance is always spent first, so bought credits are only used once that runs out.
Premium models
The Premium model option can help with complex tasks, but may be slower and has twice the base credit cost. You choose Standard or Premium per assistant from the assistant's settings.
Tier rules for Premium:
- Free can't use Premium. The option is unavailable in assistant settings
- Basic, Standard, and Pro can switch any assistant between Standard and Premium freely
- Downgrading to Free switches any Premium assistants to the Standard model at the period end. Assistants within the new plan's enabled limit can carry on answering. Test them after the change to check the responses. Switching them back to Premium is a manual step once you're on a paid tier again
For more on choosing between Standard and Premium when building, see choosing Premium or Standard AI.
Where to manage all this
Everything billing-related lives in the Account area:
- Manage Account shows your current plan and lets you change tier, cancel, restore, and manage billing details
- Spend gives the full history of credits added, used, and adjusted, plus a chart of your spending over time
- The pricing page compares tiers publicly, handy for sharing or comparing side by side
- The subscribe page is the first-time flow if you don't yet have an active plan
If anything looks wrong, such as a charge you don't recognise, credits that didn't reset, or a downgrade that went through unexpectedly, raise a support ticket from Support in the sidebar. See raising support tickets for how that works.
